Surprise Styled Engagement Shoot

November 13, 2018

Words from Unions With Celia:

Photographer Adam Williams of Adam and Dawn Photography and I came up with a plan. A plan to sweetly surprise a couple with a styled engagement session. The couple, Kennedy and Zach, only knew what to wear, the location, and the flowers (Kennedy works with the floral designer behind the gorgeous pieces used at the shoot). When Kennedy and Zach arrived we directed them to the top of a hill where they were greeted by a musician playing a sweet love song on his acoustic guitar outside of a yurt. They danced and explored the  styled yurt for their shoot. Needless to say they were blown away by the beautiful setting we created for them. They also enjoyed wine, cheese, and grapes for the shoot. We encouraged them to say sweet things while feeding each other grapes. We laughed a lot and enjoyed celebrating their relationship with them! The yurt is located on the property of The Co-op Venue. Decor was sourced by the venue, DG Stewart Design and Fabrication and Moon City Vintage. Flowers were designed and provided by The Flower Merchant. Adam and Dawn Photography captured the setting and love between Kennedy and Zach so well while Brian Bulger beautifully strung his guitar.  I (Unions with Celia) styled the shoot and coordinated the vendors.

About the couple:

Q: Let’s start at the beginning. How did you two first meet?

A: We first met at a record store (this is where I worked). Kennedy came in with one of her friends, Christi to look at records. Kennedy was looking for cds as well, she asked to me to help her find some good jazz music (which is my speciality). This is where we made first contact. Kennedy then came in the store frequently to buy records, for a record player she didn't have. She really just wanted to come in and talk to me.

Q: What makes your relationship special? Tell us some things that you both value in your time together. (example: pushing each other to new limits, love to travel, huge comic book fans, foodies, etc.) What makes your relationship unique?

A: The relationship that we have is unique in how we understand each other, we can tell what the other is thinking or feeling  just by a glance. We enjoy listening to records and watching movies, old and new. We are self proclaimed wine connoisseurs and are always trying new varieties. Wine is a challenge to us with a rich history that we are always refining.  We also like quiet time with each other. It's the moments where we are not doing anything, but enjoying  each other's company that we cherish the most.

Q: How did you know your partner was the one? When did you first know this in your relationship? (these may often be the same moment, but aren’t always)

A: Zach: I knew Kennedy was the one when she was accepting of how I was and saw for the person I could become. I'm not always the best about challenging myself or looking forward and Kennedy always helps me to keep motivated. Some people have a particular moment that they know but with Kennedy it's always been a constant feeling of happiness. Kennedy: I would have to echo Zach in that there was not a particular moment for me either, but just feeling the unconditional love right from the start.  If there were ever an exact moment thought, I would say that it was when he drove me around Springfield and showed me all of his history in the area. that really struck a chord with me for some reason, like he was planning on being with me for the rest of his life.
