Hans and Lauras love story:
Long version: The hilarious story of our beginning set the tone for our entire relationship. It's unconventional, weird, laughable, and doesn't really make sense.
It was December of 2011, a snowy Friday evening in Milwaukee, WI. Laura was out on the town with her friends, Hans was out with his friends. The two parties both end up at Red Rocks Saloon (yes, spoiler, you CAN find love in a hopeless place). Girl and boy lock eyes across the dance floor. Boy approaches. Though both unskilled, boy and girl "dance". Girl gives boy a fake name BUT a real phone number. And thus, Holly was born.
For 4 months, Hans corresponds with "Holly" through texts about running to the lake, meeting up on the weekends, etc. to no avail. Finally, in April of 2012, Laura thinks "wouldn't it be hilarious if I went on a date with that guy who thinks my name is Holly?" Luckily, Hans is easy to convince...despite the fact that Laura sent a two-page long text explaining that her name is, in fact, Laura and that she understands if Hans thought she was a crazy person and didn't want to go on the date.
They end up at Cielito Lindo, an amazing Mexican restaurant in the Fifth Ward. Hans calls Laura "Holly" a lot. But Laura doesn't mind.
Laura's favorite memory: During the summer of 2012, the first summer of our relationship, I was living in Minneapolis and Hans was living in Milwaukee. It's a 6-hour drive between the two cities so we would meet halfway in a little town call Tomah to go camping. Those nights drinking boxed wine, eating cheese and crackers by the fire, and just finally being in the same place again with this new person I was so excited about were the best. I can still picture seeing the signs for Tomah and getting so excited to see Hans!
Hans's favorite memory: I still remember the 8-page text I got from "Holly" explaining that her name was actually Laura. I was just excited that I was finally going on a date with this girl!”
