Farmhouse Wedding Inspiration

September 26, 2019

Words from the photographer:

Having grown up just minutes from this venue, I am so thankful that I found the hidden gem that is Prospect Hill Inn in Louisa, Virginia. It is quaint and steeped in history. Once a plantation, now a bed and breakfast, they still maintain the old South feeling on the property with soft a pastel yellow main building and cottages with a long line of boxwood bushes leading up to the inn.

Kassie O’Driscoll, founder and lead creative of K. Layne Styled Society, channeled inspiration from the surroundings and used pastel yellow and dusty blue as the color palate for this summer styled shoot. The invitation suite, designed by Kara Anne & Company and addressed by The Lettering Lady, sported these colors.

The Reclamation Design Company dress brought bohemian vibes to the shoot, marrying vintage and modern. Myrna with Brousseau Events envisioned a whimsical, bohemian bouquet with just a touch of country brought by the wispy grains and brought it to life. It was the perfect shape and tied together with elegant dusty blue silk ribbon.

Natural makeup with a touch of drama on the eyes, along with a loosely braided updo, both done by Stephanie Young with Enlightened Styles, completed the bridal look. The groom sported a light blue vest with khaki pants, playing into the color palate for the day.

Multiple scenes were set up on the property. The first was the reception space with rentals from Peachy Keen Events. Beautiful light wooden chargers with trendy platinum silverware from Festive Fare Rentals brought the tablescape together, and blue glassware and napkins brought the matching blue font on the menus out. Miller Calligraphy created a regal seating chart on a mirror with an ornate gold frame, as well as the Virginia-shaped place cards, which added a unique touch special to the Old Dominion.

The cake made by Sugar on Top Cakes was blue with yellow and pink flowers, again staying consistent to maintain the blue and yellow aesthetic. Small details from Peachy Keen Events and Brousseau Events made the cake table setup stand out.

Lastly, the lounge area had a beautiful beige satin couch, love seat, and chair where the bride and groom were joined by Desi, one of the alpacas that calls Prospect Hill home. We finished the styled shoot with Desi and returned him to his peaceful field after a hard day’s work was done.
